Pursue love in this kinetic novel

My Dream Is To Be A Model, Not a Maid! is a free-to-play visual novel developed by TeamANPIM. In this role-playing simulator, you follow the story of Tanaka Akane, a hot-headed woman chasing her lifetime dream of being a model.  However, she ends up being a maid to a rich CEO’s daughter. Follow Akane’s story in this riveting experience.

My Dream Is To Be A Model, Not a Maid! contains anime-styled artworks similar to Doki Doki Literature Club! and Haikyuu Otome. What makes this interesting though, is its focus on yuri, or girl-to-girl relationships, and it gives justice to the narrative.

Follow an interactive story

While My Dream Is To Be A Model, Not a Maid! is classified as a visual novel, it actually falls into a subcategory called a kinetic novel. This means that it does not have any choices like other visual novel games. You basically follow this linear story that includes well-designed anime characters with minimal animation plus soothing background music (BGM). Its controls are more for pacing the text movement.

Still, you have to try this if only for its story. The developers managed to create a girl-to-girl love story without it being too lewd or too pandering to any single fanbases. Despite its unlikely premise, it treats its characters like real and normal persons. This is evident in the responses and dialogue. This anime-light novel crossover has what it takes to keep you seated until the end.

Although it has good visual designs and a riveting story, this kinetic novel has one glaring flaw: the lack of voice-overs. It feels like it’s the only element missing for a totally immersive anime experience and would give additional definition to the characters. Although it doesn’t have voice actors (VA) behind it, it still delivers a good audio experience thanks to its good BGM choices.

A lovely yuri story

My Dream Is To Be A Model, Not a Maid! does something in short supply today, a grounded and believable yuri story. By carefully balancing elements of maturity and naturalism, the developers managed to create a kinetic novel that’s easy to follow and love. Pair this with the popular anime art style and a good BGM, you have an interactive experience that’s near perfection — though VAs could’ve elevated it further.

PROS

  • Uses anime-styled designs
